Karimunjawa islands in the Java Sea is included in the district of Jepara, Central Java. With an area of 1500 hectares of land and waters ± 110 000 ± acres, Karimunjawa now developed into a tourist charm Marine Park which began much-loved local and foreign tourists. Based on the legend that circulated in the islands, the island was discovered by Sunan Muria Karimunjawa. The legend tells of Sunan Muria are concerned about the mischief her son, Amir Hasan. For the purpose of educating, Sunan Muria then ordered his son to go to an island that appears "kremun-kremun" (blurred) from the summit of Mount Moriah for the child can deepen and develop the science of religion. ECOSYSTEM:
Since the date of March 15, 2001, Karimunjawa set by the government of Jepara as a National Park. Karimunjawa are home to coral reefs, mangroves, coastal forests, and nearly 400 species of marine fauna, including 242 species of ornamental fish. Some of the rare fauna that live here is the sea eagle and white chest,hawksbill, and green turtles. Plants that characterizes Karimunjawa National Park is dewadaru (Crystocalyx macrophyla) contained in the lowland rain forest. Waves at Karimunjawa is low and tame, mostly limited by the beach is fine white sand beaches.
TRANSPORTATION:
The most commonly used for transportation to Karimunjawa are the ship from Semarang and Jepara. From the Port of Tanjung Emas, Semarang, ship Kartini I (fast boat) departs every Saturday from 9 am to Karimunjawa and return from Karimunjawa every Sunday afternoon, 2-3 hours long crossing. From the Port of Kartini, Jepara there Muria Ship departing every other day, this old boat crossing + / - 6 hours cruise.
